McQUEEN Arch McQueen

Obituary

Arch McQueen died on 6th April 1991, just a few weeks after his story was originally published in the Rowville-Lysterfield Community News. He had fought a long battle with illness and is survived by his wife Dorothy and daughters Beverley and Barbara.

Arch first came to Lysterfield in 1926 and met his future wife, Dot Gillies, at Lysterfield Primary School where she was a fellow pupil. He was only 17 when he commenced work at Lysterfield Quarry and, after a long break in other careers and on war service, he returned to the quarries as manager in the early 1950s and continued in that capacity for 21 years until his retirement.

As a man and as a manager, Arch was held in great respect and affection by the quarrymen of Lysterfield. As a family man and friend he was dearly loved for his kindness, generosity and good humour. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
