RAYMOND Harry Raymond 1907 - 1993
Obituary
Following a lengthy illness, long-time Rowville resident, Harry Raymond, passed away on July 13th 1993.
Harry was born in Brunswick in 1907, the youngest in a family of six children of Frank and Evelyn Raymond. He worked for the Brunswick Council for many years and was a trainer with the Brunswick Football Club. It was at a Club Ball that he met Rose and they were married in 1928.
In 1941 he fulfilled a life-time ambition to take up farming by leasing a dairy property in Police Road, North Springvale. In 1945 he bought a 60 acre property in Taylors Lane (now the Twin Views Estate) and established a Guernsey dairy stud there. His cattle won many prizes at shows in the Gippsland area, with his highest achievement being a second prize at the Royal Melbourne Show.
Harry always took a keen interest in local affairs and he was a leading member of the Rowville Progress Association, Red Cross, Gymkhana Committee and Fire Brigade. He was a Life Member of the Brigade.
Harry is survived by his wife Rose and children Harry, Elaine, Ron, Jan and John, 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Harry will be sadly missed in Rowville - it is strange to drive along Taylors Lane now at school times and not see his familiar figure at the St Simon's crossing.
Rose wishes to record her deep gratitude to her neighbours and the people of Rowville for their kindness and flowers at the time of Harry's death.
