Frank Finn (1925-2001)
Long time Rowville resident Frank Finn passed away on 20 March aged 75 after a long illness. Frank came to Rowville as a small boy in 1930 when his parents Jack and Kitty bought 22 acres in Bergins Road opposite the present site of the Waverley Golf Club. Jack Finn was a bricklayer who was often away seeking work during those tough Depression years. It was during one of those absences that the family home burnt down and Frank had to scramble for his life through a bedroom window.
Frank left Mulgrave State School at the age of 14 to go to work on city building sites. When he was 17 he put his age up to enlist in the army in 1942. After he was demobilised Frank returned to Rowville to help his father run a piggery on the present site of the Pioneer Quarry.
Frank met Kath Burke in 1945 and they became partners in running the Rowville Tourist Park Motel following the death of Frank's father. They successfully ran the business for 33 years and came to regard many of the long term residents of the camping ground as family.
Apart from his devotion to Kath, his family and the business, Frank's main interest was in his carriage horses which residents will remember him driving along Bergins Road.
Frank is survived by his wife Kath, children Robert and Susan, grandson Ben and his brother Stewart.
