The Rowville community and, in particular, the Rowville Red Cross Unit, lost a most loyal member, when on the 11th October 2004, Kath Finn passed away. Kath was one of the founding members of the Red Cross in Rowville in 1971 and was awarded the Long Service Medal in 1986, the first bar in 1994 and the second bar in 2001 - that was thirty years of continuous service - and that dedication did not stop.
For many years the monthly meetings of the unit were held in the dining room of the Rowville Motel, Kath's motel. Fantastic lunches were also held there and visitors came by bus from Dandenong to enjoy the 'spread' put on by the ladies. It was very convenient that the bus stop was in front of the Motel. When the lunches transferred to Rowville Community Centre, Kath and Frank were welcome guests; Kath supplied cutlery, tablecloths and anything else we might need.
With the Red Cross, Kath attended every immunisation session for over twenty years and received a Certificate of Appreciation from Knox Council.
Even though her busy life did not allow her to attend meetings, the Red Cross tin had a very prominent position on the counter of the motel.
Kath did not like 'applause', but the members of Rowville Red Cross applaud her dedication and loyalty - there will never be another Kath Finn.
